Amplicon sequencing

Amplicon sequencing allows for multiplexing of samples where numerous PCR amplicons are converted into library molecules in an efficient workflow. This method is applicable to a wide range of research areas and can reduce costs and workflow time. It is also useful for the discovery of rare mutations in complex samples and hard to sequence areas.

Hybridization capture

Hybridization capture targets regions of the genome specific to researchers’ objectives using 5’ biotinylated probes. After isolating probes annealed to complementary fragments with streptavidin-coated beads, the library fragments are sequenced. The resulting data focus on the targeted regions providing more read depth for variant identification.

What is targeted DNA sequencing?

Targeted DNA sequencing methods allow for the interrogation of specific regions of the genome so that researchers can obtain information about the genetic material they care about the most. Targeted NGS workflows, such as amplicon sequencing or hybridization capture, generally require less sample input and result in data on specific areas of the genome, meaning that researchers get more manageable datasets for in-depth analyses.
